Before you can understand the exam structure for the associate-, professional-,or master-level exam, you must understand the concept of a competency level.
Competency Level
Each level of the certification exam is comprised of two or more of the following competency levels:

Articulate, explain, describe, and outline solutions and processes.
  • Level B
Build, implement, configure, model, and troubleshoot solutions and processes.
  • Level C
Conceptualize, blueprint, modify, and optimize integrated solutions and processes.
Each question on the exam will belong to one of these competency levels. The percentages representing the number of questions for each competency level covered by the exam will vary by competency level.

What is SAP HANA ?


In this article we will look at SAP HANA which is the most talked about product of SAP after its realased to customers on Dec 2010.
SAP’s High-Performance Analytic Appliance(HANA) exploits the advantages of In-Memory Computing that allows the processing of massive quantities of real time data in the main memory of the server to provide immediate results from analyses and transactions by combining SAP software components optimized on hardware provided and delivered by SAP leading hardware partners.
Reminds me of movie “3 Idiots” . Perfect definition to score 10/10 in any exam or interview. :)
Lets make it a little simple.

Need of SAP HANA:

So one of the key challenges IT is facing now is not only the capability to extract reports on huge amount of real time data which keeps growing in a exponential rate and from different sources but also analyzing it in different perspectives, that too in seconds.
Most of the Official SAP presentation refers to a popular term in Finance “ TED Spread “ , for explaining it , which is a measure of credit risk for inter-banking lending.

Aftermath of the Lehman bankruptcy, TED Spread hit a record spread of 465 basis points. That magnitude of spread indicated a virtual shut down in interbank lending. All financial organizations use the TED spread as an indication of easing or tightening credit markets.

When I say real real Time Data for a retail shop perspective the POS (Point of sale) data would be available for analytics even before the customer leaves the retail store.

Motivation for Architecture of SAP HANA

Most of the chip maker companies have been focusing on building multiple core as there is limitation on increasing the Clock Speed as  the more is the Clock Speed the more heat it emits while processing which results in expensive ways to control the temperature. If you observe the last decade the Clock Speed has not made any impressive change.

Software has always been made for the Hardware which these Top chip makers design.
There is always a need to build Software which can fully exploit the capabilities of the Hardware design.
So let’s have a look on both hardware and software features one by one.

HARDWARE DESIGN:

Huge amount of data is divided into multiple sets which are then crunched separately by the Blades as shown below.

The Blades are composed of multiple CPU’s per blade and each CPU has multiple cores per CPU.
This means if you say for example 8 cores per CPU and 4 such CPU’s per blade. So mere 4 Blades will have 128 cores crunching data in parallel.

SOFTWARE DESIGN:

HANA stores data in Column wise for fast computing. The below diagram compares, how data is stored row wise and column wise.

For example: If system wants to find aggregate of the second column i.e. 10+35+2+40+12.
In Row wise: The system has to jump memory address to collect subsequent values for aggregation.
That is data records are available as complete tuples in one read which makes accessing of few attributes expensive operation.
In Column wise: A single scan would fetch the results much faster.

HOW IT WORKS:

What is the need of SAP HANA?
95% people will say Dude its faster that’s why we need it.

If the moment has passed and your business has not taken the right action, it has failed. People want instant answers. They want them to be right. They want them anywhere, any time.
So to fight with these three “V”: Volume, Varieties and Velocity (A way to process and analyze massive amounts of data in real time.) SAP HANA is born!!!!!

Design patterns in Object oriented programming


A pattern is a proven solution to a problem in a specific context.To explain you in simple words it’s like recipe of “grandma’s chicken soup “.After so many trails she found a perfect way , proper ingredients which makes a delicious Chicken soup.
So Other Hungry people can use the same recipe or I can say a proven solution to make a perfect Chicken soup.
In this article we will be discussing few most frequently used patterns In Object oriented programming like:
1).. Singleton Pattern
2).. Factory pattern family
3)..Facade pattern
4)..Proxy pattern
Let’s Talk about each one by one :

1…Singleton Pattern:

Yes you read it right. There can be only one!!!!
To explain you Singleton pattern let me take an example : Let’s say you are developing an application with model view controller framework .in this case The controller is a central part which will be handling everything.
Like: Calling a proper screen, informing model to fetch the data , navigation between two screens etc..etc…
So there should not be another instance of a controller class exist though out the application.
So how you can manage to do that?? I mean if you have class anyone can create an object of that class. The simple solution is making a constructor private!!!! (Now who dares to create an object of me ;-) )
So how do I get the instance in my code??
Here comes Factory patterns into picture …

2..Factory pattern family

Factory pattern family has 4 members (4 ways you can achieve the instance of a class (Singleton class))
Simple factory Method: Encapsulates object creation in a static method.
A static method in class which creates an object and returns the instance of a class!!
So instead of creating an object you will call this method which gives you the instance of controller class.

Simple factory: Encapsulates object creation in a separate class (not necessarily static!).
Use this pattern when you want object creation is handled by central class.so for the same model view controller your required objects will be provided by static methods of factory class.
Use: you can use this pattern whenever you have many single ton classes and you want a single factory class holds all the objects which are present during execution.
Factory method: Defines an interface for creating an object, but lets subclasses decide which class to instantiate. It lets a class defer instantiation to subclasses.


Uses : Handle object creation , Can be parameterized ,Can deny object creation when conditions are not met , Can keep track of objects.
Abstract Factory provides an interface for creating families of related or dependent objects without specifying their concrete classes.

3..Facade pattern

I love this pattern, it’s like make the coding look as simple as possible for outside world.

Keep a simple class with set of methods in front.
Our favorite Google is another example of facade. Its look so simple in front but that single page made it to the world’s most accessed site for searching ( Unless you don’t use it for checking internet connection !!! )

4..Proxy pattern:

Let’s say you are working in SAP system and you want to use certain methods of a class which your friend has developed in java system. How can you use it ??
Did it ring your bells (Web Service proxy???)
Ya calling a Web service using proxy pattern is the same stuff I am talking about. In sequence diagram this is how it will look like:
Client does not know anything about realSubect (JAVA method) .Proxy handles that part of calling Request () method in java system and authorization part .Proxy is part of SAP system here.

Abstract Class vs Interface – Which to use when?


Basics

Before jumping to the differences, lets check out the basics of both – Abstract Class and Interface.

What is an Abstract Class?

Abstract Class is a special kind of class which can’t be instantiated. We can only instantiate the subclasses of the Abstract class if they are not abstract. Abstract class should at least contain one abstract method. Abstract methods are methods without any implementation – only a declaration. We can certainly define the variables referencing to Abstract class and instantiate with specific subclass at runtime.

What is an Interface?

An interface is not a class. It is an entity which can’t have implementation. An interface can only contain empty method declaration and components. Interface components are always public. We can later change the visibility of the components within the implementing class using the ALIASES.

Differences

Since both abstract class and interface are different entity, they have few differences:

  • Multiple Inheritance:We can achieve multiple inheritance using Interfaces. Since ABAP doesn’t support more than one Super class, we can have only one abstract class as Super class.
  • New Functionality:If we add a new method in the Interface, all the implementing classes have to implement this method. If we don’t implement the method, it would result into Run-time error. For Abstract class, if we add a non-abstract method, its not required to redefine that in each and every inherited class.
  • Default Behavior:We can have a default behavior of a non-abstract method in abstract class. We can’t have any implementation in Interface as it only contains the empty stub.
  • Visibility:All interface components are PUBLIC by default. For Abstract class, we can set the visibility of each component.

Recommendations

Based on the above mentioned differences, we can come to this recommendations:
  • If want to have multiple inheritance, you need to use Interface. As we can have more than one interface in the class definition, we can achieve multiple inheritance.
  • If wish to create multiple flavors of the object with some default operations, you should consider creating abstract class. As it provides you the flexibility to add the default operations directly to base class and all the subclass would get the new default operation.
  • If you want to provide common, implemented functionality among all implementations of your component, use an abstract class. Abstract classes allow you to partially implement your class, whereas interfaces contain no implementation for any members.
  • Interface should be used when working for a wide range of objects as interfaces only contain the stub, which enforces no default behavior. Abstract class should be used for classes which are closely related to each other.
  • We should use Interfaces for small functionalities which can be clubbed together to derived the concrete business object.
  • Interfaces, in contrary to abstract class, gain interface functionality no matter which hierachy tree they lie. So interface become common point to hierarchies which can’t normally seat one next to another. Futhermore if they require common implementation, a helper class can be utilized here.
